Not for the trash bin: recycling of electronic products

Your old equipment contains more valuable raw materials than you might think; materials that can be recovered and reused through recycling. This helps prevent unnecessary extraction of new resources. Moreover, electronic devices also contain harmful substances that mustn’t end up in the environment.

Therefore: they don’t belong in general waste – you can recognise this by the symbol of the crossed-out trash bin on your devices. It’s even legally required to return old electronic products to official collection points. We also have obligations: we must take back your old devices and process them properly. With our practical return and recycling options, we make it easy for you to dispose of your old devices responsibly. Together, we help conserve resources.

Return of electronic devices

How to responsibly dispose of your technology: we’re legally required to take back your old devices regardless of whether you purchased the device from us. The return options depend, for example, on the size of the device. But one thing is certain: we ensure proper handling, reuse, and disposal in accordance with legal regulations. Note before handing in your old device: once disposed of, there is no way back. You won’t get the device back – and except for our trade-in service, you won’t receive compensation. So, make a backup of all important data beforehand and delete personal or sensitive information.

Removing batteries, accumulators and lamps

Batteries, rechargeable batteries and lamps contain many raw materials such as zinc, iron or nickel, which can be recovered through recycling. Unfortunately, they also contain harmful substances that are bad for the environment and people.

The symbol of the crossed-out trash bin on batteries indicates that they mustn’t be disposed of with general waste. You’re legally required to remove loose batteries, rechargeable batteries and lamps from the device before disposal and hand them in separately. The markings Cd, Hg or Pb indicate whether the battery contains a certain amount of cadmium, mercury or lead: substances that definitely don’t belong in the environment.

Battery return

In our stores you’ll find collection points where you can hand in batteries, rechargeable batteries and lamps free of charge. You may also hand them in at the recycling centre or any other official point. Note: tape the terminals of lithium batteries to prevent short circuits.
