You’re legally required to remove loose batteries, rechargeable batteries and lamps from the device before disposal and hand them in separately. The markings Cd, Hg or Pb indicate whether the battery contains a certain amount of cadmium, mercury or lead: substances that definitely don’t belong in the environment.
